5 fruit a day?

I've decided to try and eat the recommended 5 fruit and veg a day. I got tinned fruit as it lasts longer and is easier to prepare than fresh...the tinned fruit I've bought, well some are peach halves, and they say on the front it's one portion per quarter of a can, so a whole can counts as four of your five a day. However there's only 6 peach halves in the tin, so only 3 pieces of fruit..so where's the other one come from? Does it include the juice too maybe?

Also I'm worried because somebody told me that eating one type of fruit only counts as 1 of your 5 per day... No matter how much of it you eat.Is this true? thanks!

5 fruit a day?
Yes best to eat a mix of fruits and veggies. It's 5 fruit AND VEG a day, not just 5 fruits.

If I were you I would eat 3 portions of veg and 2 fruit, eg 1 apple, 1 orange, 1 x broccoli, 1 x cabbage and 1 x carrot

Green vegetables are THE most important out of all fruit and veg.
Reply:I think the five portions generally applies to fresh fruit and veg rather than tinned fruit, fruit juices, etc. Some juices in the tinned stuff can have lots of sugar in it too
Reply:any tinned fruit or fruit juices are good for you because they still have the vitamins etc that are good for you. They do however recommend you have five different types of fruit and veg because they all have different nutritional benefits. However there is nothing wrong with eating a whole tin of fruit, its better than nothing
Reply:It's seperate fruits and veg. Not the same kind. Plus it should be fresh vegtables as they contain more good stuff which is more important and in tin food, due to some chemicals, some goodness can be lost.
Reply:If you want to eat 5 veg/fruit items per day you could prepare a salad as one of your meals this gives you an endless variety of combinations without repeating. Also soups, fruit-juices instead of tea/coffee will give you another alternative way to make up your 5 portions.

Tinned fruits are nutritious as all the goodness is sealed in the can if you eat all 6 peaches in the can that is technically one 1 portion you need other items to make up the other 4.

Tomatoes, cucumber, melon, pineapple, apples, pears their are numerous ways to tot up a decent fruit salad/cocktail.

Reply:I buy frozen fruit and put it in the blender with milk or water, makes a great smoothie and if you have this in the morning you dont have to worry about your five a day after that. Have some veg with your dinner at night and you'l get all the vitamins you need.
Reply:no

if you have 5 apples it only counts as 1 portion because it is coming from the same source,

if you have fsh orange juice 250ml that counts but if you have 1 glass r 12 glasses it still counts as 1
Reply:Hi, any 5 fruit and veg is fine, if you only like 1 fruit and 1 veg that is ok as long as your portion works at 5.

If 1 apple = 1 portion, then 5 would be 5, etc....

As long as you are eating healthy and getting enough fibre and drinking plenty of water (8 glasses is recommended) you should be on a winner.
Reply:i would suggest not because 5 a day is portions

but fruit should be naturally good for you anyway
