Fruit for quaker birds?

my daughter has 2 quakers and she has told me to buy them fruit, so i get apples, grapes and corn, they love corn, but what other fruit can they have? any? i dont want to make them sick by feeding them fruit they are not allowed to have. can i buy dried fruit also? thank you.

Fruit for quaker birds?
I give my Quaker some fruits, but vegetables should make up a larger percentage of the diet compared to the fruit intake. Too much fruit can give a bird runny stools and can result in too much sugar intake.

I balance the fruits I serve my Quaker with a good variety of vegetables. I use the frozen mixed veggie mix (peas, corn, carrots, green beans and limas) and then add to it: chopped spinach or mustard greens, apple (no apple seeds), pear, and grapes. I also give my Quaker strawberries, necatarines, cantelope, bell pepper, celery, and squash/zucchini. My Quaker loves this mix and eats it all!!!

Dried fruits are good too... just be careful if you buy them at the grocery store... they may have added preservatives and/or sugars/corn syrup, which is not healthy for a parrot.

One last thing about Quakers ... they are prone to fatty liver disease and need a diet that is rich in greens (peas, kale, spinach, dark leafy lettuces) and should have a very limited amount of high saturated fat nuts (sunflowers). Almonds are much lower in fat, but my Quaker doesn't really like the nuts that much... she will eat a peanut every once in awhile, but mostly she prefers her peas and lima beans! :)

A few foods that can be toxic to birds include apple seeds, avocado, caffeine, chocolate, dairy, beef/meats that may contain salmonella, and foods that have not been rised/washed.

Good luck to you, your daughter, and your quakers!
Reply:Yes, they can definitely have dried fruit as well. My macaws loves dried fruit mixtures, mostly because they contain pumpkin seeds and other stuff like that in it, too.

You can give your bird all types of fruit as long as you don't feed them the pits or seeds of anything. My birds love fruit that they can squeeze juice out of like oranges, all types of berries and so on. Too much fruit can give your bird diarrhea so in moderation is best.

Reply:Owner of Quaker Parakeet, also known as Monk Parrot. My bird loved to eat sliced apples, figs, grapes, etc. But she especially loved corn kernels (canned corn or corn on the cob). What most people do not know is that a Quaker loves meat! Mine loved tuna out of the can, chicken, etc. There was no fruit that I knew of that my Sweetpea didn't like except for maybe pineapple. She loved her bird feed but she dearly loved any fruit that had a good texture. They like something they can work in their beak.
