Feeding Fruit to Baby?

Wondering what the thoughts are on how feeding fruit versus feeding vegetables goes. I had only fed my 7 month old vegetables from the beginning (based on the high sugar content of fruit) but my Dr. said that she needed to eat fruit as well for the vitamins. I've been feeding her fruits for breakfast but I'm wondering if this isn't making her a bit crabby mid morning when the sugar starts to wear off. Or I'm being paranoid. Do any other mom's notice a change in their children when they feed them the fruit food as opposed to the vegetables?

Feeding Fruit to Baby?
My daughter gets fruit for breakfast, veggie for lunch and some meal for dinner. If she gets crabby, I assume she may be hungry and give her a bottle or a snack. This sometimes happens between breakfast/lunch or lunch/dinner. Fruits are good for them and they do need it - I wouldn't worry about the sugar if you are not overdoing it - Just don't give cookies and candies and you should be fine!
Reply:Sometimes I think we can always find a problem if we look hard enough. Parenting is a difficult job and we are never sure if we are doing the right thing. It says a lot about you that you are so concerned and you really seem to have your daughter's best interests at heart.

Although fruit does have sugar, they are naturally occuring sugars not processed sugars and there is a difference. Your body digests them and uses them differently. Fruit is an important part of every persons diet. If you are concerned about a sugar "rush" and then a "crash" you can give a little cereal with the fruit, but generally naturally occuring sugars don't cause highs and lows like processed sugars do.

Most of all, I would just relax. Diet may not even be the issue at all. Your daughter could be picking up on your concerns and getting cranky because you are stressing the issue. Babies are so intuitive that way.

Best of luck to you.
Reply:I always give my daughter fruit for breakfast. Never noticed a change in her mood.

Maybe your daughter is just hungry mid-morning? She might need a bottle (or a boob) at that time.
Reply:i fed my children a some fruit and some veggie at each feeding and they seemed to like it...you have to open two jars at once, but i would put them in the fridge and use the rest at the next feeding
Reply:try mixing the fruit in cereal or oatmeal for staying power.
Reply:Your giving food at 7 months? I straight breastfed for the first year, I ate all the fruits and veggies!
Reply:I'm not sure about the little "mood swings", but my son had been eating fruits and veggies since he was about 4 months.

If you feel that there is too much sugar in the already made fruits and/or veggies, then try your hand at making it yourself.

-All you need is a blender or a food processor.

-Make sure you take the skins, seeds, stems, pits or anything else out of the item that could harm baby.

-cut up fruit, and then blend or process till pureed into a very fine mush. It may be nessesacery to add a tiny bit of spring water, just so its not too thick!

-put in individual dishes and freeze or refrigerate.

(the gerber foods come in plastic dishes with lids, that make wonderful one-serving dishes)

As babies taste buds develop, and they will like whatever foods you feed them, if you feed them less fruits or less veggies, you will have a hard time trying to get them to eat it later on.

And also, making your babies food from home gaurentees she gets the vitamins and minerals she needs!

Good Luck!
