Bag your trash daily and put it out. If you do not have kids or pets, get a gallon of white vinagaer and open it. Leave it opened on the floor where it will not get knocked over. Check your kitchen not just for fruit but also for garlic, potatoes and onions. Get rid of any bad ones. And put some bleach down your kitchen drain (w/ some water) and flush it down the drain.

I don't know why, but we had that problem too about a month ago. The flies were even in a bathroom that is far from the kitchen.

The problem went away after I did as I listed above.

Lots of luck!
Reply:I find creating a makeshift fruit fly trap gets rid of a lot of them. What you do is fill a jar about 1/5 of the way with vinegar/sugar or some sort of salad dressing. This will attract the fruit flies. Then make a cone out of paper, and stick it tapered end down into the jar. This will make it so that the flies get in but they can't get out. leave it there for a few days until it fills up with flies then dump it somewhere outside. Repeat as necessary.

You'll also want to make sure you're not leaving any invitations for fruit flies. Take out your garbage often, don't leave food lying around, etc.
Reply:There are these things you can buy at stores like Walmart, etc, which attrack fruit flies, and kill them.

It's basically a little rolled up sticky sheet, that's not too big, and you just hang it (in your kitchen or wherever necessary). It attracks the fruit flies with some smell (but you cant smell it very much , don't worry) and they get stuck to it.

They work REALLY well!

Then you just throw it in the garbage after a while, and put up a new one.
Reply:My 4th grade teacher showed me a way to catch them a loooong time ago. You take an empty pickle jar (any jar should work). Then put a couple pieces of fruit in the jar. Next, take a piece of regular paper and roll it up so that it looks like a cone. Make the cone have a very small hole that only a gnat could fit through. Stick the small end of the cone down in the jar ( you may have to make the cone wider or smaller on the big end depending on how deep the jar is). tape around the cone and the jar so that nothing can get out around the edges. The gnats should be able to smell the fruit and crawl down into the jar. The hole is so small that when they try to get out they cant find the hole from the inside. It has worked pretty good for me. I always thought it was cool.
Reply:Wipe all (safe) surfaces down with bleach. You can water the bleach down a bit but this is the easiest and most effective way to get rid of them. Dont miss any countertops and make sure to do this all over your kitchen. Good luck.
