5 fruit a day?

If you should eat 5 fruit and veg a day won't that make u gain weight? as fruit is high in calories so could 5 fruit a day make u gain weight? such as an orange, slice of pineapple, bannana, carrots, and potatoes?

5 fruit a day?
A serving of fruit is only 1/2 cup, so the average fruit (apple, pear, banana, etc.) is actually 2 servings usually. Five servings is not really that many. My husband has been on the cancer diet which suggests 9 - 12 servings of fruits and veggies per day. At first that sounded like a lot but if you consider a banana at breakfast (2), the average salad greens are at least 1 cup, plus add a 1/2 cut up pear or raisins or something (2.5 - 3) and so fourth you will have your 5 servings with no problem.

Most vegetables are low in calories, high in fiber and will not cause weight gain. Fruits are high in natural sugars, but less so than drinking juices. Also the fiber is needed for weight control and most fruits are high in fiber.

If you have a weight problem, the fruits and veggies are NOT the problem.
Reply:keep in mind its not so much calories that make you gain weight, rather the fat content in the food. most veggies and fruits are low or no fat. and besides, youre not getting empty calories like you would be if you were eating a bag of chips or something.

Reply:Five pieces of fruit or veggies a day will not make you gain weight but that is a little excessive. I think one piece of fruit like an apple, peach, orage, strawberries or grapes is fine. Also maybe have one veggie a day like a serving of green beans or corn.
Reply:Fresh fruit does not have a lot of calories in it. Fast food like burgers, fries, milkshakes, chicken wings, pizza, and fried chicken has A LOT of calories. that's why people have protested against places feeding these foods to children because it is making them obese.
Reply:no that much you will gain ,if you workout ,you wont gain trust me
Reply:i'm not sure but i know that eatting many servings of fruit a day is a very good diet for your health whether your goal is weight loss or staying fit. That's what i need to start doing more, no wonder why im not seeing results even tho i go to the gym 3 times a week.
