Question about washing fruit...?

Is it okay to wash fruit before you put it inside the refridgerator? I seem to remember my mom telling me as a child that fruit spoils faster if you wash it first. However, I also remember my grandmother pre-washing her fruit and setting out in a bowl (not in the refridgerator). I like my fruit cold once it is ripe. Any thoughts?

Reply:yes, it's perfectly fine. that's what my mom does. =] ♥
Reply:I agree. Wash fruits %26amp; veg %26amp; dry. before putting in the refer. This should increse the storage life as you will be washing off the microorganisms that want to eat them. Which would be a cause of spoilage.

Use very very light soapy water. If you are a bit crazt y-like me-you can also spray them with isopropyl alcohol(rubbing alcohol), let them dry. I just do not trust the people that have handled my food.
Reply:it doesnt matter if you dont wash it before you put it in the fridge remember to wash it before you eat or serve it
Reply:some fruits melt when they stay wet for long periods of time, so washing fruit is fine just do it and dry them off before putting in the fridge or do like I do and wash them when you are ready to eat them
Reply:Usaully my mom puts it in teh fridge and then when i wanna eat it i take it out of the fridge and clean it ,and it eat it! You can do it either ways..
Reply:The only fruit you should avoid washing before you put it in a cold environment is berries, otherwise you are fine..and bananas go bad faster if you put them in a cold environment too but otherwise I think you should be fine.
Reply:the matter isn't that your fruit comes from every where it needs to be cleaned.
Reply:Wash it if you want just make sure it's dry before you put it into the refrigerator.
