Fruit Binge - Am I going Bananas?

Im on a fruit binge, trying to loose weight for my holiday in 2 weeks, and im eating a lot of bananas, as well as honeydew melon and apples. Im having a full melon a day, 8 bananas and 3 apples.

People have said i shouldnt eat that many bananas, but i cant see how eating something healthy can cause me any problems.

Please advise if it is safe to eat so much fruit for the next 2 weeks, and will i cause me any problems.

What problems if any should i expect and how can i stop them. I really like bananas, but if they will make me ill, what other fruit should i eat. Also, will what im eating help me lose weight - i am eating nothing else, apart from this, drinking fresh orange juice, water, and full fat milk.

500ml of Fresh Orange per dan, and 2-3 pints of milk.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The thing about fruit that makes it dangerous to weight loss efforts is the sugar. Even though it's natural sugar, if you don't burn it off right away, it turns straight to fat. Also, your body will start to go into a starvation mode from not enough protein and other nutrients and actually prevent you from gaining weight.

Milk also has TONS of sugar. Drink soymilk. Also, don't drink fruit juice. It's all of the sugar and none of the fiber, so it really does nothing for you besides give you more vitamin c.

From someone who's been through this before, take my honest advice if you want to lose maximum weight in a short time and keep it healthy:

Cut out ALL animal products: meat, fish, dairy, eggs.

Eat at least three servings of lean protein a day, such as tofu, beans and rice.

Limit your "whites" to one serving a day...whites are things such as white rice, bread, etc. Eat whole wheat bread and brown rice.

Portion your plate properly! For every serving of starch (such as rice, potato, or bread), eat double that amount in veggies, preferrably steamed. Don't add fat to the veggies. If you want extra flavor, saute them with a little tomato sauce and some spices.

Drink 10-12 glasses of water a day. I know this is hard, but you'll start to like it

Limit your sugar to less than 30g a day.

I hope this helps! :)
Reply:Most people think all fruit is healthy, and a lot of it is, but it is also high in calories due to the sugar that is in it. Yes, the sugar in fruit is better for you because it's natural sugars, but it's still a lot of sugar. You can get a diet that is just as good and most likely better by incorporting lean protein like turkey, or even veggies which are lower in calories and more filling than fruit. The problem with your fruit diet is I really doubt you plan on eating fruit for the rest of your life, so you need to work other foods into your diet otherwise when you do have to start eating normal again it's going to make you gain weight. If you have time to peel that many bananas and eat fruit, I honestly don't think you can say you don't have time to grab some lunch meat out of a package or some veggies out of the frig to eat as well...
Reply:my you are eating a lot of bananas!!!

i did a rough jot of your daily calorie intake which is @ 2100, and as a male on a weight loss diet you need a calorie intake of less than 2500 per day. So looking at the figures you will be losing weight.(very slowly though)

However that is not the full picture - your diet is way out of balance, where is the protein, wholegrains, veggies, plus you are way of the scale in terms of sugar intake (fructose in fruit).

You would be better off using your calorie allowance to contruct a more balanced weight loss programme and psychologically you would feel less deprived.

below is link for a calorie counter for men (in terms of weight, age, activity level etc) and go from there!!!
