Fruit for Dogs?

I was giving my pom puppy some baby carrots and pieces of apple as a snack until someone told me that fruit is high in sugar and shouldn't really be given to a dog. Is this true? I thought giving her some fruit would be a healthy snack :S should i skip the fruits %26amp; veggies and just rely on her kibble?

Fruit for Dogs?
Like everything else... fruit is fine in moderation. Just don't go overboard. Carrots and apples (avoid allowing your dog to ingest the seeds) are perfectly fine for dogs (banana's are a favorite at my house!!). A fruit every couple of days is OK.
Reply:As long as her main consumption isn't fruits and veggies that are high in sugar, you should be fine.

Try other veggies, ones that have some fiber...she'll like them and they are good for her!
Reply:Some veggies and fruits are great for dogs but of course meat is the major part of their natural diet. Raw meaty bones like Chicken backs, necks and wings are great. (ONLY WHEN RAW) Dogs will eat grass and other things besides meat when in the wild.

If you stew a tomato and add it to your dogs meal, it helps neutralize whatever causes grass to get brown when a dog pees on it. My pups enjoy a few bites of honey dew melon from time to time, as well as frozen banana slices. When I home cooked for them, their meal was 1/2 meat, 1/4 veggie and 1/4 fruit and potato or rice. For fruit, I gave them Cranberry a lot. Slightly steamed and mashed and mixed in the potatoes.

Cranberry is great for their kidneys, bladder- urinary tract.

Too much of anything isn't good. Carrots and apples are good. That raw feeding site names a lot of good veggies and fruits, though little is fed to their dogs.

They do feed green tripe to help with digestion.

Pumpkin Pie Filling is great for doggie diarrhea, indigestion, upset stomach.
Reply:I don't think it really matters in most cases, though I know that grapes are toxic to most dogs, so just avoid the grapes. Ask your vet if you're truly concerned.
Reply:Our dog used to love watermelon, and it's very high in sugar. We gave him a little piece with the rind a couple of times a year, and he was so happy.
Reply:I believe the only fruits %26amp; veggies you can't feed a dog is grapes, raisins and tomatoes.
Reply:Carrots and apples
Reply:Well as far as i know it is fine to feed them fruit and veg but you should try to avoid grapes, tomatoes and raisins they are bad for dogs.
Reply:as far as I knoe fruit and veggies are good for dogs as a treat
Reply:Unless the dogs are allergic, carrots and apple slices (without the core) are great for dogs! Keep it up! Sugar snap peas and raw green beans are also good for them. Blueberries are a very high source of antioxidents.

Stay away from nuts, grapes and raisins; and don't let them eat the pits in cherries, plums or peaches.

We feed the dogs at our shelter a modified raw food diet that includes kibble, white rice, raw fruit and raw veggies, meat and eggs. Their favorite treats are unsweetened apple sauce, yogurt and canned pumpkin.
Reply:Some of the premium dog foods out there have blueberries, cranberries, carrots, etc. in them for additional vitamins and minerals. So I would say that feeding your pom a very small amount is not going to do any harm.

If it were me, I would make sure that pom ate the required amount of her kibble each day and give her the fruit and veggies as only a treat.
Reply:My dogs love fruit %26amp; vegtables. Just don't give them too much and don't give them the apple seeds. Take care;^)
Reply:My vet suggested baby carrots, apples and banana's as treats for my dogs.
