Does anyone know what fruit trees /plants grow best in Florida? Im looking for something that is easy to take care of and can grow in various seasons. These are my options: Mulberry tree,apricot, sweet cherry trees, Fruiting Banana Plants, persimmon trees, peach trees, blackberry, rassberry, blueberries, pomello, kiwi. Does anyone know abt any of these fruits growing in Florida? I'm new to this, I know nothing abt fruit trees.. So any advice would be of a great help!:)

Mulberry, persimmon, and blackberry will grow in almost any part of Florida. Peach, raspberry, blueberry, and kiwi will grow in most parts of Florida if you get the correct varieties. Banana and Pummelo will grow in areas of Florida without freezes. Apricot and Sweet Cherry will not get enough cold weather in Florida to break dormancy. You can look up the hardiness zone for your part of Florida at the link below. Then find the adaptation of the plant/variety of the plants you are interested in. Do a web search for each such as "Blueberry, Florida" (without quotes), and look for results with IFAS or ifas in the link. These links will be from the University of Florida, and will discuss culture and varieties adapted for Florida.

Reply:bananas should be a good choice, but if you get below freezing your banana will die to the ground and come up in the spring. but since it is loseing all that height it may not fruit so IF YOU LIVE IN AN ARE WITH FREEZING TEMPS. YOU CAN ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF A BANANA. BUT NOT A LARGE QUANTITY OF FRUIT.
Cherry trees arent very warm tollerent and may not survive the humidity
everything else on the list should grow with no problem
Reply:it all depends of the space available for the plants and knowing your planting region because in Florida some trees grows to be very big. I strongly suggest that you visit your local nursery and find out what's available for your area.

ReplyDeleteFlorida is a Dry Tropics region. Therefore all dry tropics fruits will grow there. Whatever grows in the tropics of South America will grow in Florida. Virtually all citrus fruit will grow better in the tropics than anywhere else.
In Google, type "South American fruits" and I think you will be swamped. South America has most of the best of the tropical fruits.
