Fruit Vs Veges?

I often struggle to get the five plus a day minimum required for fruit and veg however I find it easy to eat alot of fruit as it is raw, tastier and convenient. Can fruit replace veges for the 5 servings? Is there one better than another?

Fruit Vs Veges?
Fruits are sweeter, so they contain more sugar, even if it's natural, you shouldn't just eat fruits to eat the minimum of five a day...

You don't have to eat all your veggies cooked, raw veggies keep all their nutrients, compared to cooked veggies, which lose some nutrients in the cooking process... Just cut up some raw veggies and prepare a low fat dip, or no dip, and when you're home, you can munch on those.

Just cut some celeris, carrots, brocolis, green and/or red peppers, or any other vegetable that tastes good raw...cut them up at the start of the week, and then it's always ready to eat, whenever you feel like a crunchy snack.
Reply:if only...no unfortunantly fruits cannot replace veggies there are important nutrients in both food groups.
Reply:They tend to have different nutritional profiles. Green vegetables will have more contain a small proportion of protein and fat and a relatively high proportion of vitamins, provitamins, dietary minerals, fiber and complex carbohydrates. Fruits tend to be relatively high in fiber, water, vitamin C and simple carbohydrates. Both also contain phytochemicals which may have antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anticarcinogenic properties. I would try to get at least two or three serving of veggies and two or three servings of fruits. You could have a V8 which is three veggie serving right there.
Reply:you need to eat both. Both provide different nutrients for the body the other can't provide. dark leafy veggies are best and stick to the fruits such as apples and bananas and stay away from grapes.
Reply:I don't think fruit can replace veggies because each has more of something than the other...
Reply:I would replace fruit with vegetables any day...if i had the choice, that is.
Reply:I chose veges because i like corn green beanes mash potatos.
Reply:excess consumption of fruit can raise your triglycerides. weird but true. Those 5 servings you are struggling with are not hard to get. A serving size is 1/2 cup. if you have lettuce and tomato on your sandwich, that is 1 portion. A salad for lunch and some green beans or peas and carrots with dinner and you are over half way there. Fill in the blanks with fruit. Anyway, once in a while doing all fruit certainly won't hurt. Better that getting your 5 portions with french fries!(potatoes are a veg!)
Reply:You still need to get in a dose of dark leafy greens regularly. They are a better source of some vitamins. You also need fiber, for which veggies are good. If you are eating whole fruit (not drinking juice) that shouldn't be much of an issue, though.
