Will fruit flies go away on their own if fruit source is removed?

I found a piece of fruit in our mud room that had been there for over a month. I won't go into details. There were many, many fruit flies. Will they go away now that I have removed the fruit and cleaned the area?

Yes eventually. But there is a way to kill them though. Buy some apple cider vinegar. In a glass (I use a wine glass because it is elevated, but kind of shallow) fill half full with water, then pour in some vinegar (they like the smell of this), then squirt some dish soap (like Dawn, Joy, Palmolive, just whatever you have). The vinegar will attract them, and they'll jump in, and the dish soap will make them unable to move their legs to get out and they'll drown.
Reply:BTW, A mud room is a place where we take coats %26amp; shoes off (and obviously forget fruit) before we go into the main part of the house. Report It

Reply:Thanx mpy -

. . I don't know if I would want a "mud room" full of mud and fruit flies right in the entry way to the rest of the house - so you can what (?) leave a trail all around???

I have lived in the snow country And have never heard such a thing..........

must be a new term Report It

Reply:They won't go away instantly, but yes that should clear up the problem.
Reply:They will eventually go away or die (their life span is pretty short). Just make sure that nothing sugary or fruity gets left out for a week.
Reply:Yes they will go away - except if it is in your house...

they need an escape route ., .. , ... , , ...

What is a mud room ? ? ?? ? ?? ?

where you make clay vases or ??
Reply:yes! rats go away when you remove the compost pile and boss's go away when you remove the golf courses!
Reply:Yes, but remember...time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana.
