Fruit for weight gain?

Ive heard that you should eat 4-6 fruits a day if you are trying to gain weight but mypyramid says I should only have 2.5...

Is 4-6 fruits too much sugar, therefore I should stick to 10 ounces of whole grains instead of replacing some with fruit??

Fruit for weight gain?
I don't think you can ever get too much fruit, especially if you want to gain weight. The reason that your pyramid only recommends 2.5 is because that's all you need to stay healthy. Eating fruit is an excellent way to gain weight. I recommend a lot of cantaloupe, watermelon, dried fruits. Good eating! Wish I were in your boat ... sigh.
Reply:Mypyramid is a food guide for the general public. Keep in mind that most Americans do not even consume 2 fruits in a day.

Fruits also are pretty low calorically compared to other foods like meats, nuts, beans and also whole grains. I wouldn't worry about the sugar from fruits because it comes in a different form than refined sugar and starches. I would recommend eating 4-6 fruits regardless of weight gain or not.
Reply:Look at your calorie intake...different fruits have different amounts of calories...I'm not sure how "too much sugar" would impede weight gain, esp if it's natural and not refined (sugar).
