I am planning on making a fruit dessert for Christmas. Any recommendations/suggestions?

I have come across a fruit dessert recipe in a recipe book of my sister's. I don't want to make it exactly the way this recipe calls for but I would like to come as close to the recipe as I can. It calls for several different kinds of fruit -- blueberries, strawberries, seedless green grapes, carambola (star fruit), kiwi, shredded cocunut, lemon juice or lime juice, lemon peel or lime peel and other fruits (I think). It also calls for slivered almonds (which I can't use because I am allergic to almonds and other nuts). There might be other ingredients to this recipe but if there are, I can't recall them.

Anyway, this is basically what this recipe calls for. The thing is,

some of the fruit it calls for might be out of season or expensive to buy at supermarkets. My sister suggested that I use frozen fruit, in lieu of fresh fruit. What do you think about that idea? I'm not sure what else I could do, besides this.

So, anyone have any ideas for my dessert? I'd really appreciate it.

Reply:You didn't specify exactly what type you want aside from fruit, so one of my favorite desserts is pavlova, and it is delicious! It is made of a meringue base loaded with berried and other fruit, and I serve it with whipped heavy cream on top. Some people make a flat sheet of meringue and do it roulade style, but I think it looks prettier if you make the meringue into the shape of a round cake layer and build it up around the edge, and put all the fruit in the center. It is really simple, only need the egg whites, sugar, cream of tartar for the base, and then the fruit, and cream if you like. It is fine to make it with frozen fruit, when I have done this, I have heated the frozen fruit in a saucepan with a little sugar and some kind of liquor-rum, perhaps (but no alcohol is necessary!), and then used it that way. Sorry to be so long-winded!
Reply:WHats really good is fruit pizza! Cresent crust, cream cheese "sauce" and fruit toppings! Delicious and appeals lots of taste buds
